about

PUSH was arranged entirely for string quartet by five incredibly talented composers Sam McCormally, Emily Hope Price, Franz Nicolay, Adam Schatz, and Patrick Breiner. When I first set out to make my album, I had a collection of demos I had written – mostly on ukulele or raw vocals – and was suddenly struck by the idea that I wanted to hear an entire record written for string quartet. That idea would not unstick itself, but I'm not an arranger, so I reached out to these beautiful friends who selected the songs they wanted to work on. They had full freedom to do whatever they wanted with the arrangements, and I couldn't be more in love with what they created. The lushness and tenderness and strength of their work takes the meaning of each song to entirely new levels that I could never have touched on my own. Their work is worth celebrating in and of itself, so I hope you enjoy these string quartet foundations of the songs from PUSH.

jocelyn mackenzie Brooklyn, New York

Jocelyn Mackenzie is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, artist, and psychic medium. Her debut solo album PUSH is a chamber pop homage to healing through radical self love. The fearlessness in her songwriting combined with the orchestral arrangements of each song alchemizes her pain into a poultice, making the album itself a testimony to hope, heartbreak, and what it means to be human. ... more
